Homemade granola

Today in the Dolphin room we made homemade granola. It was fun and easy and the kids loved sampling their own cooking.

Today in the Dolphin room we made homemade granola. It was fun and easy and the kids loved sampling their own cooking.

I got the recipe from here:

http://playfullylearning.blogspot.com/2012/02/making-granola-with-two-year-olds-guest.html

Here is the recipe:

GRANOLA RECIPE
6 C Old Fashioned Oats
approx 1/2 C each raw sunflower seeds, raw pumpkin seeds, golden raisins, craisins, banana chips, unsweetened coconut
Melt one stick butter, mix in 1/4 C honey & 1/2 C canola oil and pour over oat mixture, mix well. Spread on baking sheet, bake at 325 degrees for 20-30 min stirring every 10 min.

A few things I learned while making this with the kids:

~ Do your best to measure exactly
~ Use shredded coconut
~ A countertop griddle works as well as cookie sheets in the oven and you can monitor the toasting with your child.
~ Chocolate makes everything better (we added a few M&M’s left over from the Ice Cream Sunday and the kids loved them)
~ Add all the ingredients to a container that is tightly sealed and the kids can shake shake shake
~ Use this rhyme when having the kids shake and stir: ” One, two, three four, pass it to your friend next door!”

We had enough left over for all the kids to try it with yogurt tomorrow during snack.
